Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur or novice, this unique experience is a great way to delve deeper into the fascinating history of whisky.
Blending storytelling, social history, and a whisky tasting, your experience begins with a one-hour guided tour through The Real Mary King’s Close, Edinburgh’s only preserved 17th century street. Along the way, discover the story of whisky in the heart of the capital, and how Mary King’s Close once buzzed with trade – including the ever-popular alcohol trade.
After the tour, you’ll meet a whisky expert in an atmospheric underground vault for a 30 minute whisky-tasting session. Take in the aromas and savour the flavours of three distinct drams, including the signature Scottish blended whisky, all while soaking up the unique atmosphere of this hidden historic gem.

Tours take place on Fridays and Saturdays in May 2025, starting at 7pm and 8.45pm. This tour is only available to those aged 18+ years.
Please note, due to the historic nature of the site, The Real Mary King’s Close is not wheelchair accessible. Due to uneven surfaces and some steep inclines, sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
Afterwards, there’s the option to round off the evening with a specially curated three-course Taste of Scotland dinner at Amber Restaurant. Just a short walk from the Close, Amber is known for its warm welcome and menus rooted in seasonal, locally sourced produce. Available exclusively to Dram of History guests, this includes three courses, tea or coffee to finish, and a dram, and is priced at £50.00 per person. Vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements can be accommodated. Please note, this experience is not available on 03 May or 30 May 2025.
