As a specialist in Scottish architectural history, and an Honorary Fellow at Edinburgh University’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, John Lowrey gives this hybrid talk, which takes place at Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge.

The talk takes a broad look at some aspects of the development of these institutions in architectural and urbanistic terms but also focuses on a number of specific cases, especially in relation to the aftermath of the Great Fires of 1824 and the impact that had on the area, especially to the south.

The venue is accessible from ground floor level, with disabled access and ground level toilet facilities.

Parliament Square: Images of civic, church and state power is for members of the Old Edinburgh Club, however, there are limited places available to book online for non-members.
