Taking place of the last Wednesday of the month, these talks each focus on a different area of science and the humanity of medicine. Upcoming events include:

  • Spotlight: Bloodletting, 25 March 2026: Since ancient times people have had their blood removed with the idea that it would cure their illness. Find out who was removing blood, how they did it, and why.
  • Spotlight: Wax Moulage, 29 April 2026: The topic for this talk is the history of wax models of patients, especially for the study of skin diseases. Discover who made the models, how they were used and what they can tell us about the sick and their doctors.
  • Spotlight: Periods, 27 May 2026: Explore the history of menstruation – what people said about it (and what they didn’t say!), as well as some euphemisms and dubious treatments.

All talks are free to attend, but with pre-booking required.
