This exhibition explores the fascinating history of healthcare in prisons, from the work of early reformers like Elizabeth Fry to the experience of suffragettes force-fed in Scottish prisons, to the vital contribution that nurses make to prisoner health today.

Prison Nursing Unlocked: A history of care and justice: exhibition is open Monday to Thursday (10am until 4pm) from 02 March to 30 September 2026. It can also be viewed as an online exhibition.

Taking place within the Royal College of Edinburgh Library on South Oswald Road, the exhibition is fully wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair accessible toilet, and on the ground floor. Assistance dogs are welcome. A large print guide of the exhibition is available.
