2023 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance. William Byrd was widely admired in his own time both at home and abroad and the influence he had on future generations was immense. Despite living through incredibly turbulent times and fearing for his own safety, his music is full of life, emotion and vitality.
Performed by The Sixteen, the 2023 Choral Pilgrimage explores some of his most moving works and brings his legacy firmly into the modern day with the world premiere of two specially commissioned works by Dobrinka Tabakova.
The Sixteen’s Choral Pilgrimage: A Watchful Gaze takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday 14 October at Greyfriars Kirk. Tickets should be pre-booked online.
Lothian Buses services 23, 27, 35, 41 and 42 all stop near to Greyfriars Kirk. The church has level access and toilet facilities for visitors with limited mobility. Blue badge holders can request parking by contacting Greyfriars Kirk directly.
