Hooked: 500 Years of Addiction explores the history of addiction – from heroin to gambling, from alcohol to love.
Featuring rare books, historical objects, artworks, interviews and digital interactives, the exhibition considers the meaning of addiction, its causes and the stigma attached to being addicted.
Taking place within the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh’s Physicians’ Gallery on Queen Street, the gallery is fully wheelchair accessible with a self-operated street lift. Wheelchair accessible toilets are onsite. All audio and video content within the gallery is displayed in text format, and exhibition label and panel text is available in large print format. Assistance dogs are welcome.
Hooked: 500 Years of Addiction runs from 30 May to 13 February 2026, with free entry.
