With talks, an exhibition and refreshments, this launch event marks the College’s new online resource, The People’s Dispensary.
In 1776 the Edinburgh Public Dispensary was established by Andrew Duncan. This new online resource contains over 10,000 pages of digitised and transcribed 18th century patient case notes from the dispensary’s operation – providing a detailed account of the diseases, treatments and experiences of Edinburgh’s sick poor.

Doors open at 1.30pm, with hot drinks available, followed by presentations. From 4pm to 5pm there will be a social hour with hot drinks and nibbles. An exhibition that includes 18th century medicine bottles and archive material related to the Edinburgh Public Dispensary will also be on display.
The event is free to attend, but tickets should be booked in advance on The People’s Dispensary – Launch Event.
