Cafes

There are so many amazing cafes in Bruntsfield and Morningside it would take you almost three weeks to visit them all for lunch!

Some are Edinburgh favourites like Artisan Cheesecakes, S Lucas for ice cream and breakfasts, Cuckoo's BakeryArtisan RoastSoderberg for Swedish treats and cinnamon buns, and the inimitable Bross Bagels.

Others are unique to the area. The Maytree have artisan gelato, hot chocolates and chocolate-themed bakes for a range of diets. Honeycomb & Co have a spectacular brunch menu and lots of outdoor seating. Round Square do excellent coffees and pastries, and have he perfect atmosphere to while away an afternoon with your laptop or a friend. Karine, right at the foot of Morningside, have the most amazing sandwiches and a French delicatessen - if you can get a table, don't pass it up!

Restaurants and takeaways

Bruntsfield and Morningside are home to truly excellent French and Italian restaurants. 

You'll find a range of French dishes, including great seafood, at Maison Bleue, while Bia Bistrot offers a creative Gaelic take on French classics.

For Italian eats, you'll get delicious pizza, pasta and other dishes, and great service from Tempo Person, Papilio, Nonna's Kitchen, and Mia Italian Kitchen.

Locals also love the modern British dishes at Three Birds, spectacular steaks at the Chophouse, and classic Indian curries at Morningside Spice.

If you'd rather grab a takeaway and cosy up at home, you've got loads of options. You could get pizza from East Pizza or Italian Connection (very different but both delicious!). If it's curry you're after, Morningside Spice do takeaway too, or you could try The Clay Oven or Curry LeafOr get your favourite Chinese dishes from U Rice, or a classic Scottish fish supper from the Globetrotter chippy.

Pubs and bars

For an after-dinner drink, or an afternoon watching the rugby, head to one of a few great bars and pubs in Bruntsfield and Morningside.

In Morningside, the Canny Man's still has the original bar from 1871, and all sorts of quirky old decor. The Merlin has a beer garden and plenty of space inside for big-screen sports. For cocktails and a great whisky selection, head to The Waiting Room.

In Bruntsfield, the recently opened McLarens on the Corner also has a beer garden and food trucks as well as a sumptuous, leafy interior. Montpeliers is a long-time favourite for dinner, drinks or a weekend brunch - they'll make your Bloody Mary exactly how you like it!
