Buildings on the bank of the Water of Leith by the shore

More by the Shore Business Page

A new campaign to support recovery and bring more people to explore, discover and spend locally

Following the fire at the former Debenhams building on Princes Street and the resulting disruption to travel and footfall, recovery funding has been made available to support businesses and encourage activity.

More by the Shore is Forever Edinburgh’s new destination campaign designed to support recovery efforts by encouraging more residents and visitors to explore Leith and Newhaven, stay longer and spend locally.

The campaign will showcase the businesses, experiences and places that make the area special through a programme of seasonal activity, incentives and storytelling.

We’re inviting businesses across Leith, The Shore and Newhaven to be part of the campaign and benefit from increased promotion, new customer incentives and activity designed to encourage visits and local spend.

What is More by the Shore?

More by the Shore is a destination campaign celebrating the businesses, experiences and places that make Leith and Newhaven special.

Whether you’re a restaurant, café, bar, shop, attraction, beauty salon, accommodation provider or experience business, there are opportunities to get involved.

Businesses can take part in the activities that work best for them — from creating a special offer or experience, to featuring in campaign content and reaching new audiences through destination marketing.

There’s no cost to participate. Businesses can choose the opportunities that best suit them and get involved in one or more activations.

How businesses can get involved in the free activity

Activation 1: Leith Leisure Trail (working title)

Discover the businesses, flavours and experiences that make Leith and Newhaven unique

The Leith Leisure Trail (working title) will encourage residents and visitors to explore more by showcasing its incredible mix of hospitality, leisure, retail and independent businesses.

Businesses can take part through:

  • Leith Exclusives – unique products, dishes, drinks or experiences only available locally.
  • Offers and incentives – special offers, added-value experiences and reasons to visit.

Whether it’s a signature dish, a unique product or an experience only available in Leith and Newhaven, the trail will create new reasons for people to discover and spend locally.

Activation 2 More by the Shore at Christmas (November / December 2026)

This Christmas, we’ll showcase the best of Leith and Newhaven through festive content, offers and incentives designed to encourage more people to visit and spend locally.

Businesses can get involved by joining the More by the Shore for Less festive voucher scheme and sharing their Christmas offers, events and experiences with us so we can feature them in campaign content.

Your festive activity could be featured in the Forever Edinburgh festive guide, inspiring residents and visitors with ideas for things to do, places to eat, drink, shop and explore this season.

Businesses can take part through:

  • Festive voucher scheme – joining the More by the Shore for Less festive voucher scheme
  • Festive content and promotion – sharing Christmas offers, events and experiences so we can feature them in campaign content.

Activation 3 – More by the Shore in 2027 (January and February 2027)

  • More by the Shore for Less New Year voucher activation (January / February 2027)
We are exploring the possibility of delivering a Resident Rewards Edinburgh voucher scheme for EH postcode holders. Customers pay half the voucher value, with the campaign funding the remaining amount. There is no financial cost for businesses to participate.
  • After 5 – showcasing Leith and Newhaven after dark through seasonal content highlighting evening dining, entertainment and experiences. Share winter menus, late-night activity, live music, screenings and creative workshops to be featured in campaign content and visitor guides.

Businesses can take part through:

  • Resident voucher scheme – accepting vouchers from Edinburgh residents through Edinburgh Resident Rewards (subject to final confirmation)
  • After 5 – sharing winter menus, late-night activity, live music, screenings and creative workshops to feature in campaign content and visitor guides.

We are working to develop a business toolkit that will be available to businesses for their own use soon.

Final programme details are still to be confirmed, and we will share updates in due course.

Whether you’re a baker, hairdresser, retailer, hotelier or another local business, this is your opportunity to showcase the unique identity of Leith and Newhaven – their eclectic mix of things to see, do and experience, and their one-of-a-kind welcoming spirit.
