Characters of Edinburgh: Still Life at Leith’s Out of the Blue Drill Hall takes a look at less-well known Edinburgh characters such as Dora Noyce and Monkey Mary, alongside well-known figures like Alexander Graham-Bell and Mary Moriarty.
This exhibition is part of Characters of Edinburgh, a community festival that invites us to imagine the Edinburgh we want to live in and how we want our city to be represented to the world.
In conjunction, Characters of Edinburgh: Platformed, a performance from Active Inquiry, features a host of characters who must confront the question of who best represents Edinburgh whilst protecting their secret at all costs.

Both events run from 12 to 14 August 2026. Characters of Edinburgh: Still Life has free entry, while Characters of Edinburgh: Platformed is priced between £7.00 and £10.00 per person, with pre-booking required.
