Featuring 70+ authors from the world of science fiction, fantasy and horror, the popular Cymera Festival takes over The Pleasance for 3 days of spine-chilling literature.

Each year, CYMERA Festival brings speculative fiction authors together to discuss their stories in a series of author panels. At CYMERA you’ll find a wide variety of authors — from established genre giants, to debut authors just hitting the shelves. Book signings are held immediately after each in-person panel.

CYMERA has worked with some fantastic authors over the years: Cassandra Clare, VE Schwab, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Joanne Harris, Sangu Mandanna, Charles Stross and more! Keep an eye out for their 2025 programme to see this year’s author list.

Attend one of their many workshops, covering ghost stories and writing cross-genre, to writing immersive fight scenes and creating your own fantasy map, there is something for writers of all skill levels.

There are endless options for supporting new writers such as open mic sessions and the opportunity to read your work aloud at the start of one of their events. The creators hall is another great opportunity, packed with indie publishers, creators and artists showcasing their work.

All events are individually ticketed. A Weekend Pass includes entry to all in-person and digital panels. The venue for the festival’s duration is The Pleasance in the Southside area of the city. Lothian Buses routes 14, 29, 30, 33, 37 and 41 all stop on nearby Nicolson Street. It is then a short walk to the venue.

The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. For those who appreciate a space to escape the buzz of the festival, a dedicated quite space will be available. View the full list of events and book your tickets on Cymera Festival.
