Centred around World Ocean Day (08 June), the Scottish Seabird Centre at North Berwick hosts a 5 day festival with a range of events celebrating Scotland’s extraordinary marine wildlife and habitats.

Several of the events are free to attend, with a recommended donation.

Ranging from workshops and wellbeing events to water activities and talks, all spread out along the beautiful East Lothian coastline, highlights from this year’s programme include:

  • Megan McMcubbin’s Marine Moments – Join wildlife TV presenter and author, Megan McMcubbin to discover all about her passion for Scotland’s coasts and seas.
  • Marine Explorers – Taking place in a marquee outside the Scottish Seabird Centre, these family-friendly interactive and informative talks will explore our marine environment, including the impact pollution is having on the environment.
  • Mindful Marine: meditation, breathwork and sea swimming – Suitable for those aged 18+ years (or teens with an adult), this 90 minute mindfulness session will connect with nature through mindful walking, silent reflection, yoga, meditation and sea swimming.
  • Summer tasting with Fidra Gin and Sea Buckthorn Scotland – Enjoy a Fidra G&T and a Stormy Seas cocktail while learning how gin is made and taking-in the view across to Bass Rock, an island which is home to the largest gannet colony in the world. Open to 18+ years.
  • Sunday snorkel session – Suitable for beginners aged 14+ years, join diver Laura Curtis Moss for the basics of snorkelling and a guided trail which includes an exploration around East Lothian Snorkel Trail’s North Berwick locations. Masks, snorkel and fins will be provided; please bring your own wetsuit, boots and gloves.
