From 10 July to 13 September 2026, Richard Maguire will present There Is No Beginning, As There Is No End, an exhibition of drawing and sculpture that considers British and South Asian histories, interrogating power relations and representations of race and sexuality.
Barbed wire and link fencing feature throughout Maguire’s drawings. Working also from archival photographs, Islamic painted miniatures, and Hindu statues, his drawings acknowledge the ways that material and cultural production illustrate the workings of colonial oppression.
Richard Maguire’s exhibition will be part of Edinburgh Art Festival 2026 and represents the solo presentation in Collective Gallery’s inaugural early-career artists’ programme, Time + Space. Combining learning and professional development with exhibition opportunities, this new annual open programme offers artists at the beginning of their careers support to make and present new work, and to engage with the gallery’s audiences.
Collective Gallery is located at the City Observatory on Calton Hill. The buildings are wheelchair accessible, and service dogs are welcome across the whole site. Further access information about the site, exhibitions and services is available on Your guide to accessibility at Collective.
Richard Maguire: There Is No Beginning, As There Is No End is free to visit, with no booking required.
