Telling the story of the overthrowing of Summer by Winter with a dramatic battle between the mythical Summer King and Winter Queen, Samhuinn is a contemporary revival of the ancient Celtic celebration, told through a spectacular performance of music and dance and immersive theatre.
Hundreds of performers will transform the city’s Calton Hill, bringing together fire-play, drumming, acrobatics, dance, immersive performance and elaborate costumes on Halloween night, 31 October 2026.
As this is an outdoor performance, please dress according to the weather. The ground on Calton Hill is uneven and can become slippery in wet weather. As some parts of the park will be very dark, it is advised to bring a a torch/flashlight/lantern.
This event contains semi-nudity and uninhibited behaviour – parental/guardian discretion is advised. Under 16s must be accompanied by a full-paying adult.
A small number of food stalls run by local businesses will be available. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and drink (glass bottles/containers are not permitted). Please dispose of all rubbish responsibly.
